Connect and Disconnect to Ratchet example throwing 403 error?

I’ve cut and paste the example code for the “quick example” for Ratchet from https://github.com/ratchetphp/Ratchet (at the bottom of the read me), then run the server php server.php.

server.php

<?php
use Ratchet/MessageComponentInterface;
use Ratchet/ConnectionInterface;

    // Make sure composer dependencies have been installed
    require __DIR__ . '/vendor/autoload.php';

/**
 * chat.php
 * Send any incoming messages to all connected clients (except sender)
 */
class MyChat implements MessageComponentInterface {
    protected $clients;

    public function __construct() {
        $this->clients = new /SplObjectStorage;
    }

    public function onOpen(ConnectionInterface $conn) {
        $this->clients->attach($conn);
    }

    public function onMessage(ConnectionInterface $from, $msg) {
        foreach ($this->clients as $client) {
            if ($from != $client) {
                $client->send($msg);
            }
        }
    }

    public function onClose(ConnectionInterface $conn) {
        $this->clients->detach($conn);
    }

    public function onError(ConnectionInterface $conn, /Exception $e) {
        $conn->close();
    }
}

    // Run the server application through the WebSocket protocol on port 8080
    $app = new Ratchet/App('localhost', 8080);
    $app->route('/chat', new MyChat);
    $app->route('/echo', new Ratchet/Server/EchoServer, array('*'));
    $app->run();

In my index.html file I’ve got

<!DOCTYPE html>
<html lang="en">
<head>
    <meta charset="UTF-8">
    <title>socket server demo</title>
</head>
<body>
<script>
var ws = new WebSocket('ws://localhost:8080/echo');
</script>
</body>
</html>

on the console, I see the status code of 101 Switching Protocols and get the response headers:

Upgrade: websocket
Connection: Upgrade
Sec-WebSocket-Accept: rLmi89pKuU1TfJY5H7cuOxH88Lw=
X-Powered-By: Ratchet/0.3.6

(and if I add a onopen and onmessage to the javascript, they work : the server is talking/echoing).

if I change it to one of the other example routes and reload I get a 403 error

<!DOCTYPE html>
<html lang="en">
<head>
    <meta charset="UTF-8">
    <title>socket server demo</title>
</head>
<body>
<script>
var ws = new WebSocket('ws://localhost:8080/chat');
</script>
</body>
</html>

the status code is now 403 Forbidden

and the response headers are only

X-Powered-By: Ratchet/0.3.6

Why am I getting a different response?
