can someone tell me the best way of using sass to compile css on a shared host? i don’t want to update my file locally and then upload them to the server. I heard something about using grunt or gulp.
Right, you can use any task runners to compile scss into css. But usually it’s used during the development process on a local machine.
You could do this on a VPS/VDS if you’re ready to configure your server. Or you can work locally and deploy your code in any way.
I doubt that you can run gulp / grunt commands on a shared hosting even if it supports node.js. But instead of gulp / grunt, you can use some php scripts.
For instance: http://leafo.github.io/scssphp/
Server example: http://leafo.github.io/scssphp/docs/example.html
P.S.: If this one doesn’t fit your needs, you can google “scss compiler php”.
